Tailored Implementations

Introduction

The skills training and business improvement services described on this website demonstrate the deployment approaches that Industry Forum most commonly implement with clients. There is no 'one size fits all' approach however and most Industry Forum activities comprise a tailored combination of activities to deliver the clients objectives. The common denominator across all Industry Forum activities is that they support the delivery of direct Quality, Cost and Delivery bottom line benefit.

The need to develop tailored implementation programmes applies particularly to large, multinational companies who need to develop a standardised approach across all their facilities.

How do Industry Forum develop tailored implementation programmes?

Industry Forum has a highly experienced team of Directors and Managers who will work closely with clients to understand their particular needs and develop programmes of activity with them. There is always a drive to achieve 'self sufficiency' so that organisations can continue to drive further activity once the Industry Forum involvement has been completed.

The examples below demonstrate how Industry Forum have developed tailored programmes:

Example 1 - Aerospace Global 'Lean Platform' Implementation

Industry Forum have worked with this multinational client on two highly successful 'Supply Chain Group' activities with their UK supplier base. The client now wanted to develop a common Lean Platform of materials and training approach that could be implemented throughout their facilities over three continents.

Industry Forum worked with the client Lean Director and the Lean Coordinator for each facility to agree the programme of work required, to assess the current implementation maturity and understand the existing training materials available.

Industry Forum worked alongside the client to agree the required tools and techniques for the Platform, the platform formats and to agree the training mechanism and timing. Industry Forum developed the training materials in both English and French language versions which were agreed and signed off by all the Lean Coordinators.

Eighteen full time Lean Coaches were trained in the tools and techniques through four week training courses. One group was facilitated in English, the other in French

The platform has been provided in a multi-media format to provide flexibility in implementation as shown on the diagram below.

Example 2 - White Goods Global Lean Introduction

Industry Forum were approached by this customer who were facing increasing competition, a global consolidation of the marketplace and a more demanding customer base.

The need identified was to drive cost reduction through:

  • Relocation of production
  • Reduction of direct material costs
  • Improved quality

Industry Forum worked with the client to develop a standardised activity programme covering all levels and all functions of the organisation. Programmes were developed covering the training and deployment of internal resource together with direct implementations facilitated by Industry Forum.

The programme developed over three years through agreed phases

  • Year 1 : Pilot programmes
  • Year 2 : Development - Training, Impact and Build Capability
  • Year 3 : Self Sufficiency in core tools and techniques, broaden implementation areas.

To support the process, Industry Forum mentored the client core team to develop their own manufacturing system based on the Industry Forum materials. A cultural training programme was implemented alongside the improvement tools training to sustain the improvements through a worldwide approved assessment process.

During years two and three of the programme within the European operations there has been a 13% improvement in productivity and a direct cost saving achieved of over 24 M Euro.
