Business Diagnostic
Introduction
Many organisations struggle to integrate 'daily life' and 'continuous improvement' coherently in their strategic planning activities. Continuous improvement activities are often not supported effectively because they have no clear linkage to achievement of the target business performance and there is no accountability if improvements are not implemented
In the worst case, the business objectives are so closely aligned to achieving 'budget' targets that they actively encourage managers to maintain the status quo. For example the need to hit a target level of standard hours per month drives managers to manufacture 'easy' products not those the customer actually wants and discourages waste elimination activities as these would reduce the bookable hours.
What is the Business Diagnostic?
Industry Forum has developed a comprehensive suite of tools that support organisations to integrate process improvement activities effectively into their strategy as part of daily life, not as a bolt on addition.
The first phase of activity is to undertake a Business Diagnostic. The Diagnostic Elements undertaken and associated timescale are always dependent on the particular needs of the organisation (size, structure etc.).

Benefits of the Business Diagnostic
The benefits of the Business Diagnostic are to:
- Create a clear, objective understanding of the current situation and its impact on delivery of the business strategy.
- Identify the improvement needs across the organisation.
- Develop business and functional level plans, with a robust policy deployment methodology, to drive the improvements required and deliver the business objectives.
