Lean (6) Six Sigma is a structured approach to process improvement and optimisation. A series of statistical tools are utilised to identify key process inputs (x), then selected Lean and Statistical tools are used to optimise and effectively control these inputs to achieve desired process output (Y). Trained champions facilitate the process named Blackbelts or Greenbelts dependent on their level of training and experience.

What is Lean Six (6) Sigma?
is a symbol for Standard Deviation in statistics. The output of any stable process is expected to be contained within a spread of 6 Standard Deviations. If that distribution is centred and the spread ‘fits’ twice within the customer’s specification limits then the chance of a defect will be approximately zero (or 3.4 ppm). It is the achievement of this that defines the goal of a Lean Six Sigma program.

Measure: Choose suitable measure to reflect requirements and install
Analyse: Identify the opportunities in the process to improve
Improve: Apply appropriate techniques to remove variation and improve capability
Control: Standardise improvements and sustain

Is Lean Six Sigma for my Process?

Lean Six Sigma is an approach that has been used in many different industries and processes . Any process that has a measurable output whose success is determined by the performance of its inputs can benefit from this approach. The manufacturing successes are well documented but many successful applications have also been achieved in a wide range of commercial processes.
