What
is Team Leader Training?
The Team Leader Training programme developed by SMMT Industry Forum
is based on the best practice expertise developed using our unique
Common Approach techniques. It provides the essence of world class
thinking in modern manufacturing management.
Because every company is different, the
Mixing 'hands-on' and 'learning by doing' with
theoretical and classroom activities, the programme develops
the process skills that are vital to successful leadership of continuous
improvement activity.
"The SMMT Industry Forum applied their
excellent, very practical "hands-on" teaching method to
develop a broad cross-section of our Team Leaders...to establish
a strong foundation for continuous improvement."

Championing
change
The roll of the team leader is to challenge the current status,
identify opportunities for improvement and implement
change in a bid to achieve ever higher performance in Quality, Cost
and Delivery.
This will result in competitive advantage.
The Team Leader plays a pivotal role in Manufacturing. He/she is
in a unique position of directly managing the resources, people,
materials and machines used to create the product.
In addition to managing the current status, they are
also able to challenge it by identifying opportunities for process
improvement, implementing those improvements and then sustaining
the benefits gained.
To achieve this role Team Leaders need three basic
skills: personal, people and process.
The Team Leader Training programme focuses primarily on process
skills, through 'learning by doing'. This approach will also enhance
the personal and people skills.
Increasing the Team Leader's skills in these
areas is aimed at developing Sustainable Continuous Improvement
activities within the business, to achieve even higher performance
in Quality, Cost and Delivery.
“I left the training really motivated,
ready to use the new tools I had learnt with the operators to make
improvements. I’m currently working on line balance, SMED
and standard operations.”
Chris Haw, Manufacturing Engineer
Weston Aerospace
“Good, very good
! The way the training built up over the 3 weeks has given me the
tools and confidence to undertake my own kaizen activities and cell
development.”
