The Background to ISO/TS16949 courses
While Vehicle Manufacturers saw some benefit and improved performance from their suppliers who implemented quality management systems, the general feeling was that the ISO9000 series did not meet their needs, as it was too vague and non-automotive specific.

This led to the development of automotive sector based variants of ISO9000.

In the USA, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler developed QS-9000, which harmonised their quality system requirements for their suppliers into one document. QS-9000, based upon the International Standard ISO9001: 1994, is supported by a series of support manuals, focusing on the key automotive tools, namely Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
